REDDITCH MP Jacqui Smith has held a meeting with the solicitors and housing specialists providing advice at Redditch County Court to those facing repossession or eviction from their homes.
She heard about the high success rate of the new advice service provided by Evans Derry Binnion Solicitors since November last year. The advice is provided through government funding and is free at the court. It has helped 90 per cent of people who used the service stay in their homes.
Ms Smith said: “This was a great meeting and I learnt a lot about the help that is available now to people facing repossession of their homes.
“There is real expert advice on hand at the court for free and I would urge anyone facing court action to use it. Turn up an hour or so before your hearing and have your case checked out independently – even if you think all is lost you may well be able to get help.”
Tim Woodward, the solicitor’s housing specialist said: “I see a lot of people facing the prospect of having their homes taken away from them and feeling helpless. In fact, if people get to the court in enough time and talk to people like me, there is very often a way of settling or defending the case and, for people to stay in their homes. The worst thing people can do is give up - fail to turn up at court and fail to take advice.”
If people facing eviction, through rent or mortgage problems, want to contact us directly they can call 0121 770 1721 or 0121 717 2674.”
